Cars are often subject to a lot of wear and tear. It is for this reason that many auto repair services offer an overall fix for cars, which covers the entire gamut of fixes that are required. Often termed auto body repair, these fixes are designed to repair the deformities and signs of use that may appear on the body of an automobile. The sorts of deformities that are dealt with can include anything from creases, seams coming loose, trims, tears, and even dents. Repair in order to fix problems with the frame of the car, the internal and external car panels, and any damage on bumpers and grills, or any other deformities that may be hidden from the naked eye are done.
The main steps that are involved in repairing the body of a car are the paint job, the surface treatment, and repair on the car’s sheet metal. With these sorts of repairs required, there are very specific pieces of equipment that are utilized, most specifically for surface treatment, and repairing the sheet metal of the car.
Trained professionals are well-versed in the procedures required to appropriately repair each car that goes through the auto body repair process. By following instructions closely and using the right equipment, auto body repair can successfully fix a car without any undue harm to the person repairing the car.
Paint and Surface Repair
In reality, the process of repainting the car back to its original sheen is the last step in the entire process of auto body repair. There are a couple of steps required before you are able to paint the surface of the car. These steps are not limited to sanding, repairing of dents, covering holes in the car, and even repairing sheet metal when needed. Often, spray paint is used in order to paint the car. The reason for doing this is because of the effectiveness of spray paint in achieving sufficient coverage, and evenness of coat on the car each time.
Paint Application Tools
In order to apply paint, a couple of tools, usually air respirators, are used. There are popular paint systems, which include Neoterik, Hobbyair, and respirator guns such as Sharpe, Sata, and De Vilbiss. Before paint is applied, of course, dents have to be removed. These dents are removed using equipment such as Black Hawk hydraulic tools, and HS Stud Welders.
Repairing Sheet Metal Damage
Damage on the sheet metal of a car can occur as a result of corrosion of the vehicle’s body due to age, or when the vehicle recently underwent a high-pressure collision. These things may require a full sheet metal panel to be replaced. Otherwise, repair can be less intensive, such as removing deep-set rust on the sheet metal.
Tools for Repairing Sheet Metal
In order to perform the appropriate repairs on damage on sheet metal, tools such as MIG welders and air-powered equipment are used. Popular brands for MIG welders are Firepower and Astro MIG. Air-powered equipment is most popular under the brand of Hutchins.
