With the environment being a key issue for many years now, the subject of global warming due to car emissions has become equally as important to most consumers. Of course, the environment could be only a secondary consideration given the rising cost of gasoline and the measures that must be taken by governments to procure a steady supply of it. Despite the fact that hybrids may be a larger initial investment, the cost can clearly be compensated by lowering the amount of fuel needed for the same amount of travel. While it may require a larger initial investment to purchase a hybrid over the average car, the lower fuel costs do help to compensate.

Who wouldn’t love to have that kind of peace of mind, right?

The main concerns that most people have regarding hybrid cars revolve around their performance and gas mileage. They wonder if the new-fangled cars will have the same power as the older cars they are used to. Can they count on a hybrid to get them where they want to go without having to stop and charge it up every 100 miles? Can it keep up with the rest of the traffic on the road? How much less gasoline do they really need to run? In short, is it really worth the trouble to own hybrid cars?

The one drawback to hybrids in comparison with their gas-driven counterparts is that they do not come with a trailer hitch attached, nor can you order one added on at the dealer. Actually, hybrids do have a significant towing capacity as well, but the manufacturers have placed restrictions on the cars as to discourage misuse, so pulling a trailer does currently invalidate the warranty.

Other than the issue of being able to pull a trailer, hybrid cars have been proven to perform as well on the road as the average gas-guzzler. They have the horsepower to keep up with the speed of traffic, even on steep hills, without any difficulty. Since they consume less fuel, they also produce a great deal less environmentally threatening emissions. While the manufacturers of the gas-guzzling cars of the past would like to have everyone believe that the new breed of cars has serious drawbacks that should be considered, it doesn’t take a genius to see that hybrid cars will soon dominate the market. Not just because of the environmental effects, but also because they are an excellent alternative to their now outdated predecessors.

Other than getting a hybrid car, be sure to look at alternative like biodiesel
