The History Of A Limousine.

As one can hear from the pronunciation of the word limousine, or chauffeur, they belong to French and appeared in the beginning of the 20th century. It was the time when there were no cars in the streets, just horsed carriages and equestrians riding beautiful horses.
The origin of the word limousine are French fields where shepherds worn in special garments, named limousines were pasturing their flocks. These garments helped them to shelter themselves from cold winds and rains typical of that area. These garments had large hoods called limousines. A bit later, in the middle 20s of the 20th centuries shepherd-like hoods were used to protect the drivers of cars used by prosperous people. The chauffeurs tried to protect themselves from bright sun and rains and they used removable roof rot this purpose. The roof had a name ‘limousine’.
